Portability at Paisley plus image quality

The emergency department at Royal Alexandra Hospital, Paisley, has installed a Philips CX50 portable ultrasound scanner, which is said to combine the image quality expected of a full-sized system with the convenience of portability.   

States Philips: “It has the potential to reduced failed bedside exams caused by the low image quality found in current compact ultrasound products and, as a result, fewer examinations need to be repeated, facilitating quicker and more confident treatment decisions.”

Emergency medicine consultant Dr Frank Westerduin reports: “We rated the Philips CX50 top of the four systems we looked at and we have been extremely pleased with the equipment since purchase; our confidence in ultrasound image interpretation has increased using the new system. 

“The excellent size of the cart for an emergency department and ease of archiving/storing images are also features we particularly like.”

The CX50 and its transducers support a wide range of examinations, including abdominal, vascular, small parts, musculoskeletal, breast, obstetrics, gynaecology and adult cardiology.   Freehand, 3D, 2D and Philips’ gold standard Doppler cover a broad spectrum of imaging requirements, while comprehensive analysis packages and QLAB quantification plug-ins streamline workflow for portable studies.
