The ‘apparently normal’ CT head: A review of some of the most commonly encountered missed pathologies

CT examination of the head is the most frequently requested after-hours CT study and incorrect interpretation may have catastrophic consequences. Radiologists face a growing number of challenges related to excessive workload, pressure for rapid delivery of reports, insufficient clinical information and limited access to previous radiographic studies. This is compounded by ever-larger CT datasets with greater potential for missed findings. We present a brief review of pathologies not infrequently missed or difficult to detect on CT.
