Save our skins wins IPEM poster prize at UKRC

The IPEM prize-winning poster at UKRC was ‘Save our skins’, produced by a team of radiographers working in the northwest of England.

Julie Kelsall from Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust said: “We are all radiographers based in the northwest who work in cardiac catheter labs. Realising the deterministic injury that PCI procedures or long radiographic procedures can produce, we decided to identify and follow up patients at risk of skin injury from cardiac catheter procedures and consequently formed the group called ‘Save our skins’.

“We have met regularly as a group since 2007 and the poster showed how we have progressed in reducing, documenting and following up patients who have had high radiation dose procedures and may have skin damage.”
