Dr Emanuel Kanal’s 6th European MRMD/MRSO Course brings MRI professionals together again in London

News, Promotional news story

MRI professionals from across the UK and beyond gathered in London from June 1-3 for Dr Emanuel Kanal’s 6th European MRMD/MRSO Course, hosted by MRI Safety Matters. The three-day event brought together MRI professionals and industry partners for an intense programme focused on MRI safety, risk assessment, and clinical decision making.

Widely regarded as one of the world’s leading authorities on MRI safety, Dr Emanuel Kanal delivered a series of engaging and thought-provoking sessions examining the MRI safety considerations associated with the electromagnetic fields used in MRI.

A range of complex MRI safety scenarios were explored, and the use of Dr Kanal’s structured risk assessment framework to help to evaluate implants, medical devices, and foreign bodies was demonstrated. At times, the sessions challenged assumptions, with the goal being to help attendees develop greater confidence when assessing and managing MRI safety decisions to support safe and effective patient care.

Dr Emanuel Kanal said: “MRI safety is not about memorising rules. It is about developing a framework for thinking. When professionals understand how to assess risk, challenge assumptions and apply evidence-based decision making, they are better equipped to protect patients and advance safe MRI practice.”

Alongside the educational programme, attendees had the opportunity to engage with industry partners showcasing technologies and innovations designed to support MRI departments and professionals. A particular highlight was Corsmed’s MRI simulator platform, which demonstrated how simulation-based learning can help develop scanning confidence, technical understanding and practical experience in a safe and controlled environment.

The event also provided valuable opportunities for global networking as the course participants attended from more than 20 countries. Attendees were able to discuss shared challenges and exchange ideas and best practices with colleagues from across the international MRI community. These interactions offered valuable insights into different approaches to MRI safety and practice, further enhancing the learning experience.

Barbara Nugent, founder of MRI Safety Matters, reflected on the success of the course: “What makes this event so valuable for learning is the time Dr Kanal spends to ensure that everyone in the room understands the concepts. By bringing together education, innovation and the MRI community in one place, the learning doesn’t stop when the course ends. The discussions around MRI safety continue long after, back in departments across the country.”

One delegate commented: “The combination of world-class teaching, industry innovation and the opportunity to network with other MRI professionals makes this one of the most valuable MRI safety events I have attended.”

MRI Safety Matters would like to thank Platinum Sponsor Corsmed, Gold Sponsors Bayer and Esaote, Silver Sponsor Probo Medical, Bronze Sponsors Pearl Technology and Wardray Premise, and Supporting Sponsor Rothband for their valued support in helping make this year’s course a success.

Following the success of the June course, MRI Safety Matters now looks ahead to the hybrid MRI Safety Update & Innovations Day, taking place on Saturday 31st October 2026 at the Royal College of Physicians, London.

Bringing together leading experts and industry innovators, this one-day event will provide the latest updates in MRI safety, emerging technologies, regulatory developments, and practical solutions for MRI departments. Attendees will have the opportunity to hear from expert speakers and network with colleagues from across the MRI community.

The event can be accessed in person, virtually, or on-demand, offering flexibility to suit individual learning needs. Attendees will be eligible to receive 40 hours of access to the Corsmed MRI Simulator app (early registration is recommended as the number of user accounts may become limited). In addition, all in-person attendees will receive a complimentary copy of The MRI Practitioner’s Handbook, courtesy of MRI Safety Matters and Corsmed. Together, these resources provide valuable opportunities for further learning, skills development, and ongoing CPD.
