Benenden Hospital sonographers present liver service research at ECR

Benenden Hospital’s advanced practice sonographers were selected to present their research papers at the 2026 European Congress of Radiology in Vienna, Austria. Sadie Ridley and Pauline Mellor from the private hospital near Cranbrook in Kent presented their poster abstracts titled ‘Longitudinal assessment of ultrasound liver service performance’ and ‘Ultrasound versus MRI of the groin: a retrospective study’ in front of an audience of 20,000 international attendees from 131 countries.

Nearly 10,000 abstracts are submitted each year and these are peer-reviewed before being accepted or rejected.

Imaging manager Emma Masters commented: “This is such a well earned accolade for Sadie and Pauline. They have taken our liver scanning service from strength to strength – from identifying a gap in the market to establishing a now in-demand service for a wide spectrum of patients benefitting from the most advanced diagnostic equipment.”

Ridley has also been named the UK winner of Doctify’s inaugural Unsung Heroes of Healthcare. The judging panel of the independent healthcare review platform said: “Sadie’s nomination stood out for her remarkable drive to transform a gap in diagnostic care. By driving the implementation of the south-east’s first advanced liver scanning service, she has reduced the journey to intervention for over 300 patients to date. But the true scale of her impact lies in the future; she has established a pioneering service that will improve countless lives.”
