Probo Medical completes a “professional, efficient and effective” removal at hospital in the south-west

De-installation by Probo Medical

Probo Medical has completed the de-installation of a Siemens Healthineers Artis Q interventional system from a hospital in the south-west, clearing the way for a replacement as the hospital upgrades equipment that’s reached the end of its working life.

Probo delivered the project alongside Equans, which manages facilities for the site and ran its own dedicated project team. The planning started well before the engineers arrived to start the removal. Wayne O’Brien, Probo’s south-west account manager, arrived on site at 7.30am so his visit wouldn’t affect that day’s theatre list. Wayne checked over the equipment and carried out a full site inspection with Equans, photographing the access and egress route the Probo engineers would use. Over the following week, Wayne worked with Equans to agree the full scope of works.

To keep disruption to a minimum, the removal took place over a weekend. First, the system’s hard drives were removed, marked, photographed and handed to one of the hospital’s representatives with a sign-off document, in line with their GDPR policy. With the equipment made electrically safe, Probo Medical engineers Matt Harris and Lukasz Hanczyn were able to start the removal.

Following OEM protocols, the team dismantled the ceiling-mounted C-arm, patient table and flat detector, along with the machine room cabinets and control room computers. Every component was broken down to pallet size so it could pass through the hospital’s existing doors, corridors and lifts, then wrapped, crated and removed from site. The team finished by cleaning and sweeping the theatre, leaving it ready for the next stage of the upgrade.

Probo Medical continued to support the hospital even after leaving site. The hospital had not labelled one item it wanted to keep, so Probo checked through the crates, found it and hand-delivered it back to the trust within the week.

Scott Ewing, senior project manager at Equans, said: “The strip-out team were fast and truly efficient. I have personally managed dozens of similar strip-out and refit projects and found the Probo team to be professional, efficient and effective in making my portion of the project much easier. I would welcome Probo back on site at any time to carry out an equipment strip-out.”

For Probo, the project reflects what its de-installation service is built around: OEM-trained engineers with the knowledge to handle the system, project management that ensures reliable delivery, and flexibility to suit the hospital’s requirements.

Probo Medical would like to thank Scott and the Equans team, and all hospital staff on site for their support throughout the project.
