Rothband’s Gurpal Matharu steps down after 25 years in medical imaging

Gurpal Matharu has retired from Rothband, bringing to a close more than 25 years in the medical devices and imaging accessories community.
Matharu joined Rothband in 2023 and built the company’s accessories business from a useful but small line into one of its core sales areas. His contribution went beyond sales: drawing on years spent in imaging departments, he worked directly on the development of the accessories themselves, feeding practical department experience into driving substantial growth in the medical imaging product line. Colleagues credit him with a customer-first approach, spending time on site with radiographers, understanding how kit is used and shaping the range around what teams told him they needed.
During 25 years in the sector, he became a familiar face at UK imaging events and to buyers, radiographers and radiology managers nationwide, as well as to suppliers and distributors across the accessories industry.
Rothband MD Paul Dixon said: “Gurpal has been part of the fabric of imaging accessories in this country for a quarter of a century. He has done far more than sell products, he has listened to departments, brought their thinking back into what we make and grown the range enormously in the process. His experience continues to shape how we approach our customers and it will keep informing our sales model long after he has gone.”
Matharu added: “It’s been a great experience to work with Paul and all the staff at Rothband. I wouldn’t say that they are team but more of a family, with all the support they give each other, which follows on to all the customers.”
