BMI Thornbury Hospital’s refurbished scanning suite, equipped with a Toshiba Aquilion Prime CT scanner, was officially opened by High Sheriff of Sheffield Lady Sykes.

Replacing a ten-year old dual slice system, the new addition will enable the hospital to offer the very latest in cutting-edge technology, including procedures such as cardiac imaging and colonography.

Hospital executive director David Mills said: “The new scanner will have a great impact on every single aspect of the hospital.  It will help identify numerous health problems from hip pain to a brain tumour, and so will be a huge benefit to every speciality.  It will assist our staff in making a more detailed and accurate diagnosis in order to provide the most appropriate treatment.  It is also faster than previous scanners and reduces radiation dose.”
