Professor Denton receives honorary doctorate

University of Salford director of radiography and occupational therapy Dr Julie Nightingale with Professor Erika Denton.
Professor Erika Denton, national healthcare leader and noteworthy campaigner for the promotion of excellence in diagnostic services, has been made an honorary doctor of science by the University of Salford.
She told the audience at the packed graduation ceremony at the Lowry In Media City Salford: “It is the first time I have really had cause to reflect on the amazing opportunities I have had across so many different aspects of medicine. Medical school taught me the value of resilience and hard work. It taught me to take opportunities whenever they arise and follow what truly interests me. I rarely decline a proposal for a new venture.”
Professor Denton was the first national clinical director for imaging at the DoH, serving in this and similar roles for the last decade. Since 2013 she has been the national clinical director for all diagnostics at NHS England, providing leadership in planning, policy, management and delivery of high quality diagnostic services. She has led radiology through extensive changes, including the roll out of PACS to support the digital imaging revolution.
