Glan Clwyd stands out with installation of weight-bearing MRI

Lead MRI radiographer John Manchester scans a patient in the upright position.
Glan Clwyd Hospital in north Wales has become the first publicly-funded hospital in the UK to invest in Esaote’s G-scan Brio, an open, weight-bearing MRI unit for musculoskeletal scanning.
The hospital can scan patients in any position, from standing vertically to the traditional supine position. As an open magnet system, it is also suitable for claustrophobic patients.
Lead MR radiographer John Manchester said: “We were excited to invest in the G-scan as an example of innovative technology. It improves the patient experience and allows the hospital to respond effectively to increasing demand for MSK services. There is nothing else that’s comparable to the system in any other NHS hospital.”
