This is a very in-depth book that takes us back to the origin of Christian Doppler himself and the family history, which I found particularly interesting.
The basic principles of Doppler are explained but then it delves into the more complex aspects, which are beyond the requirements of postgraduate level but cover a vast range of applications for specialist clinicians in obstetrics and gynaecology. They would be excellent as a source of reference for the wider academic population including sonographers, radiologists and vascular scientists.
This book will also aid experienced ultrasound users with revision and recap and provides an in-depth insight into understanding the more complex patient presentations that are now more commonly seen in departments.
Each chapter details anatomy, physiology and pathology and correlates to the resulting impact and how the Doppler changes as a consequence. Each chapter has sonographic images and illustrations to aid in the understanding of the written text. This allows better understanding of how to utilise Doppler to its full potential and produce high quality diagnostic images, as well as accurate reports of the findings. Although shorter in length, the gynaecology section provides fabulous images of pathology and how to interpret the Doppler findings.
The book contains a wealth of knowledge regarding Doppler in obstetrics and gynaecology and would be an excellent reference in a clinical setting. This would be a good book to have in an ultrasound department, especially in a teaching trust.
