The aim of this book is to provide a comprehensive and accessible guide to MRI safety. It has been written by three prominent MRI safety educators committed to raising awareness around patient safety in the MRI environment. The authors have compiled it from a foundation of extensive practical experience and theoretical knowledge.

This handbook has been designed to help anyone working in MRI to understand all the elements of MRI safety, especially in relation to the patient. Undoubtedly, this manual would be invaluable to students, radiographers and other clinical staff looking to specialise in MRI. The format  is clear, and the text and content are comprehensive and well indexed.

The book offers a complete learning path from safety basics right through to a more advanced level. Brimming with useful information, it covers safety standards and adverse incident reporting, electromagnetic field effects, cryogen safety, gadolinium-based contrast and emergency response considerations. There is also an excellent chapter on practical decision making for scenarios involving various devices and implants.

This book reflects the current changes and challenges that are faced when maintaining patient safety in the MRI environment. Unlike some other books on the subject, there is no strong bias towards mathematical explanation which makes this book very accessible. All of the chapters are written in an understandable manner, with an equal focus on both technical and practical knowledge. Information is well presented and supported throughout by plenty of diagrams, illustrations and references.

This handbook meets its objective of reinforcing the need for comprehensive training to ensure safety to patients, the public and MRI workers. I highly recommend it to anyone wishing to have thorough, up-to-date knowledge of MRI safety, and it should be considered an essential resource for workers in the MRI environment.
