East Lancashire Breast Screening Service (ELBSS) held its fourth Clinical Breast Examination course at East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust.

The course, designed by consultant radiographer Rita Morgan, consultant breast surgeon Miss Jane McNicholas and consultant radiologist Dr David Enion, gives radiographers and nurses working in the breast service an opportunity to gain the knowledge and skills necessary to examine the breast in a clinical setting.

Dr Enion said, “The course enables participants to perform clinical examinations without the need for the traditional examination by a doctor.  Patients are passing through care systems more quickly but without compromising care quality. Doctors in units who employ staff in this way are more effective in their roles and duties.”
