DXA equipment supports academic research

Pictured following an upgrade of a Hologic Discovery DXA system supplied by Vertec Scientific to the University of Birmingham’s School of Sport, Exercise and Rehabilitation Sciences, College of Life and Environmental Sciences, are building manager Steve Allen and Vertec product sales specialist Bill Reid.
The Discovery is being used in various ways to support academic research, including assessing the influence of exercise and nutritional interventions on body composition, the distribution of lean and fat mass, and on bone density across a range of study populations. In addition it is used to provide the information on body composition that is often necessary for scaling the results of physiological measurements eg expressing a physiological variable relative to lean body mass.
