Ashford Hospital has imaged its first patient following a £1.4 million investment in diagnostic capabilities. Local resident Michael Walbach was scanned for abnormalities in his knee using the hospital’s state-of-the-art MRI scanner.
The GE Signa Explorer 1.5T MRI system, delivered through a partnership between Ashford and St Peter’s Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and Alliance Medical, will help to deliver quicker scans to patients in the local Surrey area, reducing the waiting list for MRI procedures.
Trust chief executive Suzanne Rankin said: “My colleagues and I are very excited to be able to offer the latest imaging technology to all our patients requiring scans. This MRI scanner will expand the range of procedures we are able to undertake at the hospital while also helping to reduce waiting times for patients across Surrey.”
