Inshore lifeboat receives vital funds

Diagnostic imaging equipment company Future Medical Equipment has provided funding to a charity that has been serving the local community for almost 200 years.

Ferryside Lifeboat at Towy Estuary, Wales, is one of more than 70 inshore lifeboats stationed around the British Isles that operate independently of the RNLI. It is part of HM Coastguards Search and Rescue organisation and is launched in response to 999 calls under the control of HM Coastguard.

Future Medical Equipment director Leon Parsons explained: “When Ferryside approached us for funding we did some research and soon realised the important work that it does, so we were pleased to get involved. The group of volunteers does such an amazing job helping people in trouble so we knew we wanted to help.”

Anthony Rees from Ferryside Lifeboat said: “As an inshore lifeboat crew we are mindful not only of the responsibility we have for those needing our help at sea but also because we represent a custom that stretches back to 1835 when the first lifeboat was stationed in the village of Carmarthen. We continue to strive to improve the capabilities of the lifeboat station so are extremely grateful that Future Medical is able to help our cause. Their funds will enable us to provide a more effective service to those in need and help to rebuild our first aid hut to provide better triage facilities. We are also reviewing the low tide requirements of the area to ensure that we are always in a position to provide a rescue service whatever the tidal conditions. Without donations our lifeboat would not be able to continue.”
