Macclesfield hospital appreciates familiarity of its upgrade

Breast screening superintendent, programme manager and superintendent radiographer Miriam Griffiths, mammography assistant Bincy Alias, Toshiba Medical Systems ultrasound sales specialist Lynn Parkington and mammographer Christine Muir.
Macclesfield General Hospital has installed a Toshiba Aplio 300 ultrasound system that will be used for further investigation of follow-up cases that have been recalled after screening. It will also be used to perform ultrasound-guided needle biopsies.
Consultant radiologist Dr Michael Crotch-Harvey said: “We have used Toshiba ultrasound machines for breast work for many years now as they produce consistently good imaging in breast patients. We wanted to have a machine that produced qualitatively similar images to those which we were used to and which operated in a way with which we were familiar. Swapping transducers between machines is an additional benefit. The equipment has a panoramic feature that we have found very useful in delineating the size of large lesions and demonstrating the relationship of tumours to the nipple.”
