Nuffield Health Warwickshire MRI install

Nuffield Health is celebrating the 100th delivery of diagnostic imaging equipment as part of its partnership with GE HealthCare, with Warwickshire Hospital unveiling a new Signa Voyager MRI scanner.

Announced in January last year, the collaboration will see a £200 million investment in the latest AI-enabled diagnostic equipment across Nuffield Health’s hospital network over the next 20 years. This will support Nuffield Health’s ambition to deliver an industry-leading diagnostic service in the UK and incorporates upgrades to energy-efficient technology as it evolves. Imaging systems that have already been installed across Nuffield Health’s hospital network include more than 50 ultrasounds and 20 C-arms, as well as mobile x-rays and x-ray rooms, mammography systems, CT systems and a fluoroscopy system.

Nuffield Health chief operating officer for hospitals Karen Prins said: “Embedding 100 new diagnostic systems across our hospitals in just 10 months is a remarkable achievement. This investment ensures our talented teams have access to some of the most advanced, AI-enabled imaging technology available, to deliver the highest standard of care to patients.

“We are committed to playing our part in supporting the NHS and getting the nation back to better health. By expanding diagnostic capacity and delivering faster, more accurate diagnoses, we’re helping more people access the care they need, when they need it.”

To celebrate the launch of the 100th system the hospital team was joined by one of its longest-standing patients and serial fund-raiser Zelda Wilson. She was first diagnosed with Grade 4 breast cancer in 2007, which later spread to her bones and resulted in a brain tumour. Over the years, she has undergone extensive treatment and has been a regular patient at the hospital for imaging and chemotherapy. Despite these challenges, Wilson has raised thousands for charity by completing marathons, Iron Man challenges and a 500km cycling trip across the Alps. She said: “The new MRI scanner is a beacon of hope for patients like me. I’m glad for the new technology as I get to use it, and I get to cycle to it. This technology means faster, more accurate diagnoses, with less time waiting – and more time for living.”

The Signa Voyager MRI scanner is equipped with award-winning AIR Coils, as well as deep learning AI convolutional neural network reconstruction pipeline AIR Recon DL and Sonic DL.
