Princess Elizabeth Hospital is first in the UK to receive Revelation mammography system

Princess Elizabeth Hospital breast unit’s latest addition is the first Mammomat Revelation to be installed in the UK, providing Guernsey with tomobiopsy and tomosynthesis facilities.
According to an NHS report, the percentage of women attending breast cancer screening has fallen to its lowest rate in ten years, with many women stating discomfort as a key reason for non-attendance. The Mammomat Revelation from Siemens Healthineers focuses on improving patient experience. A number of features including SoftComp, OpComp, MoodLight and Prime dose-reducing technology allow easier positioning of patients and offer greater comfort, in addition to advanced screening techniques and personalised exposure.
The addition of HD tomobiopsy and HD tomosynthesis technology allows clarity in imaging of well-defined masses otherwise undetectable by ultrasound. The Princess Elizabeth Hospital, one of two that constitute Healthcare Group Guernsey, will be able to reduce tomosynthesis scan times by eight seconds to boost scan throughput.
Business manager of x-ray products at Siemens Healthineers Joanne Barry said: “The Princess Elizabeth Hospital delivers an excellent service despite the heavy workload and pressures. As there is increasing pressure to ensure all women are screened in a timely manner, the Siemens Healthineers system in place is already simplifying processes for staff. This, combined with the new technology of HD tomobiopsy gives patients a better hospital experience in an otherwise stressful environment.”
