Scottish screening service goes digital

Scotland’s breast screening service has gone digital, following Hologic’s success in both phases of the Scottish Breast Screening Programme (SBSP) tenders in 2012 and 2013. Thirty-eight 2D Selenia Dimensions mammography units have been procured, with 21 mobile units across the country and 16 units in static centres, of which eight are 2D Selenia Dimensions units with a Hologic Affirm stereo module. Each of the regional centres in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Dundee, Aberdeen, Inverness and Irvine has been re-equipped with the latest Hologic digital technology. An additional unit was a prone table for one of the Glasgow sites.
Regional business manager breast and skeletal health solutions UK and Ireland Ambrose Murray said: “Breast sales specialist Lynne Callan has done a fabulous job and it is great credit to her that the SBSP put its faith in Hologic. The project has enabled us to add to our service resources in Scotland and these units have kept our installations team busy for some three years.”
