Wythenshawe updates specimen systems

With some new equipment are Rachel Hasanj, Allison Kelly and Cathy Hill.

The Nightingale Centre and Genesis Prevention Centre at the University Hospital of South Manchester, Wythenshawe, has acquired three Faxitron specimen radiography systems.  Lead radiographer in breast imaging Claire Mercer, who was appointed in 2013, quickly established that both specimen radiography systems in radiology and in the breast theatre were in need of replacement:  “The systems’ image quality had degraded and the purchase of new systems throughout the service was deemed essential,” she said.

Following approval for the upgrades, individual tenders and an NHS Supply Chain process followed.  The first system acquired was a Faxitron CoreVision, of which Mercer said: “It was compact and suited our purposes of imaging breast core biopsy specimens at speed and with high quality in the breast unit.”

A compact and easy to manoeuvre BioVision was also acquired.
