Yeovil District Hospital installs value for money CT scanner

Seated in front are diagnostic services manager Fiona Rooke, superintendent radiographer CT/MRI Samantha Kibby, radiology assistant Catherine Howard and senior radiographer Kate Howells.  Standing are Toshiba Medical Systems account executive Megan Newberry and senior CT applications specialist Mark Condron, deputy superintendent radiographer CT/MRI Simon Jones, Toshiba CT applications specialist Graham Martin and consultant radiologist Dr Cenydd Thomas.

Former BBC chief news correspondent Kate Adie has officially opened Yeovil District Hospital Foundation Trust’s Toshiba Aquilion RXL 16-slice CT scanner.  The system was purchased following a campaign to raise the initial funds for a second scanner and the Friends of Yeovil Hospital, Friends of South Petherton Hospital and the Kay Kendall Leukaemia Fund all contributed to the purchase.  Operating alongside the hospital’s Aquilion CXL 128-slice cardiac CT scanner, the Aquilion RXL system will provide much-needed extra capacity.

Diagnostic services manager Fiona Rooke said: “We had a challenging budget, but the Aquilion RXL is great value for money as it still offers the same low dose technology as our higher-end CT, which is a huge advantage for patient scanning flexibility.  A second CT has allowed us to provide continuity of service and faster response for patients, and supports trauma imaging, stroke and cancer pathways.”
