Radiology business manager Mary Murphy, Siemens Healthcare regional account manager Patrick Doherty, radiographer Irene O’Meara, clinical specialist radiographer Colm Daly, consultant radiologist Dr Gerry O’Sullivan, Siemens customer service account manager Patrick O’Donnell, clinical nurse manager radiology Grace Kenna, radiography services manager Susan Coyle and HSE West North West Hospital Group clinical director, diagnostics directorate, Dr Colm O’Donnell.

University Hospital Galway in Ireland was the first hospital in north west Europe to install a ceiling-mounted Artis Q interventional unit from Siemens Healthcare, and reports success using the system for angiography, biopsy and radio frequency ablation (RFA) procedures.

“The team at the hospital is delighted with the installation,” said consultant interventional radiologist Dr Gerard O’Sullivan. “It has essentially replaced CT in the area of biopsies and RFAs and we have not had to go to CT once in six months since the install. We are pleased to be able to enhance the safety and accuracy of procedures for our patients thanks to the technology. In particular, technically difficult angled access sites and routes, for instance adrenal biopsies and deep pelvic collections, have become much easier and occur at reduced dose exposure to operator and patient than CT.”
