Former health secretary and sheriff of Hull, Baroness Virginia Bottomley has opened a £4.5m PETCT scanning centre at Castle Hill Hospital in Cottingham. The Jack Brignall PETCT Centre delivers diagnostic services for cancer and heart disease, with plans to add services for dementia in future, to north Lincolnshire and east Yorkshire. It was made possible by local medical research charity the Daisy Appeal.
Baroness Bottomley, who is also chancellor of the University of Hull, unveiled a plaque commemorating the opening before charity trustees, donors and local dignitaries. She addressed guests about the benefits of the PETCT scanner as well as giving guided tours of the centre.
The scanner is operated by Alliance Medical and replaces a mobile system that visited the region two days a week.
