Professor Keevil is BIR president

Professor Stephen Keevil has become president of The British Institute of Radiology 2022-24, as Dr Sri Redla steps down after two years in office.

Professor Keevil has been a supporter and member of the BIR for many years, serving on council as vice president for external affairs, on the BIR MRI committee and the BIR MR safety working party. He also served as president of the UKRC from 2012-13.

“I am thrilled and honoured to be the new president of the BIR. There have been some fantastic accomplishments to celebrate over the last few years and I look forward to more milestones as the BIR embarks on a new five-year strategy,” said Professor Keevil.

As head of medical physics at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, Professor Keevil heads a team of almost 200 staff who provide a comprehensive range of medical physics and clinical engineering services. He is also professor of medical physics at King’s College London. Among other previous professional activities, he has served as president of IPEM (2013-15) and is a member of the administrative council of the International Union for Physical and Engineering Sciences in Medicine.

Dr Redla said: “I have thoroughly enjoyed my term of office and am immensely proud of the BIR and of what it has achieved in the last two years. I look forward to continuing working with the BIR in my role as past president.”
