St Joseph’s Hospital delivers constructive cardiac MRI course

In September the sixth biannual St Joseph’s Hospital Cardiac MRI course for radiographers took place at The Parkway Hotel and Spa, Cwmbran. On day one the  course was attended by 16 delegates from across Wales and England, as well as one delegate travelling from Dundee and another from Cork. The faculty members, who together have 42 years of combined cardiac MR (CMR) experience, provided nine scientific lectures covering topics including ECG analysis, essentials of  cardiac MR imaging, safety of imaging with cardiac devices, tissue characterisation and stress perfusion imaging.

Day two gave the opportunity to make use of St Joseph’s Hospital’s facilities. Hands-on scanning sessions were carried out on a Siemens Healthineers Magnetom Sola system to provide bespoke teaching for each delegate. Sam Meynell from Circle Cardiovascular Imaging offered expert training in image analysis and data quantification using the latest CVI42 software. Delegates also enjoyed a fusion session on CMR image acquisition, extended CMR practice and image interpretation and reporting.

Feedback showed that all of the delegates would recommend the course to colleagues and CMR radiographers. Comments from delegates included: “interesting and enjoyable,” “pitched perfectly and good fun,” “well explained lectures,” and “very constructive and interesting, relevant and engaging.”

The St Joseph’s Cardiac MRI course was sponsored and supported by Bayer, GE HealthCare, Probo Medical and Circle Cardiovascular Imaging.
