Diagnostic radiography students at the University of Cumbria are to benefit from clinical placements at a world-leading cancer treatment centre.

The university has signed an agreement with The Christie NHS Foundation Trust in Manchester to host placements from September this year, giving students access to one of the world’s pioneering units.  The hospital is the largest single-site cancer centre in Europe and treats more than 44,000 patients a year.

“We are absolutely delighted that the radiology department at The Christie has agreed to host placements for some of students who study at the Lancaster Campus,” said professional lead for medical sciences Charles Sloane.  “It was really obvious from the outset that the team in the x-ray department is highly motivated and determined to give students the best possible clinical experience and support.

“This will really help us in our mission to support patients and the NHS by providing additional workforce in an area where there are chronic shortages of staff.”
