Wythenshawe Hospital cuts burden on ultrasound department

Superintendent sonographer Gill Martin, Toshiba Medical Systems ultrasound applications specialist Paula Connor, Nigel Pickles from the medical physics department and midwife Janie Jennings.

Wythenshawe Hospital has purchased a Toshiba Xario 200 ultrasound scanner for use in its delivery suite.  It will be used by the obstetricians for presentation scans on women in labour and is expected to be invaluable to the department during out-of-hours and weekends.  It also means that patients do not have to be transported, accompanied by a midwife, to radiology for a scan.

Consultant in obstetrics and fetal medicine Dr Saudabi Valappil said: “We are delighted to have the Xario 200 in our delivery suite for emergency use.  We are very pleased with the purpose-built machine, which is compact and sturdy enough for portable use, but with superior image quality and specifications.

“We are looking forward to using it for growth and presentation scans for women attending the antenatal triage and day assessment unit, which will hopefully reduce the demand on the ultrasound department.”
